At the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Samsung announced a list of new projects that the company has been working on.
One of them was and update for the Simband wearable, a health tracker that has many sensors for measuring biometric data which includes skin temperature, EKG levels, and bloodflow. Once this data is measured, it is uploaded to SAMI, the company’s open and cloud-based database.
It is hard to believe that it has only been a few months since the Simband was first unveiled. By the way, the Simband was not intended to be a consumer product but as some kind of reference platform. I’m not quite certain what that is, but the API and SDKs were also released today for developers.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Simband does get some sort of bigger unveiling, perhaps later this year or even at CES 2015. Granted, the company has a lot of wearable tech, but there is no reason why they can’t add more.
By the way, the new version of the Simband wasn’t the only thing that Samsung announced. They are planning to create a virtual reality headset known as the Gear VR Innovator Edition, and this will launch sometime in December.
