It has been a while since we reported on what our friends at LG are doing, and I believe the Urbane is a follow-up to the G-Watch R. Even though LG plans to show off the watch at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain in early March, they have released facts about it on a recent Press Release.
I can’t help but think that LG is attempting to get ahead of the Apple Watch release with this particular smartwatch. Note that it has a stainless steel body in a polished silver and gold finish while the strap is leather and very, very classy. Yeah, you heard me complain about how smartwatches lack a classy look, but the Urbane is by no means mundane. Feel free to quote me on that.
You’ll also note the circular display, and it is a 1.3-inch full circle P-OLED display. It has an operating system of Android Wear, and it can measure the wearer’s hear rate and pulse thanks to a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor.
As for the other specs, it has about 4 GB worth of memory. I’m not certain how the user will interface with it, or what kind of apps will work well on it, but hey, it will be the latest thing, competing with Apple before they launch their Watch in the spring. As far as the official release date for the Urbane is concerned, we don’t really have that or the price.
