One of the biggest obstacles to making smartwatches as good as smartphones is the small screen. This is all about to change as Opera, makers of a very well-known browser for smartphones, has announced that their browser will be on the Samsung Gear S smartwatch.
Opera has stated that their browser is the first to make its way to the smartwatch, or any wearable technology for that matter. Now that users have the ability to surf the web from their watch, this definitely brings up the subject of proper screen size. I’m not certain if the Gear S is compatible with most websites, and it might be as awkward as trying to surf the web on your phone.
Of course, people adapted to using the web on their smartphone, so they might adapt to using a browser on the smartwatch just as easily. Something tells me that there will be a lot of pinch to enhancing going on. Considering Apple Watch had to develop an entirely different operating system to accommodate an online user experience for their smartwatch, it will be interesting to see how companies like Opera will develop theirs.
The good news is if you have the Samsung Gear S, you can download Opera Mini for free from Samsung Gear Apps. So far, I have not heard anything about it being available on other smartwatches.
